Blue Fern Studio May Sketch Challenge

Hey everyone!!! So for the month of May I decided to try a challenge.  Blue Fern Studios….which is a paper crafting company that sells GORGEOUS papers and chipboard pieces has a sketch challenge this month.  The challenge was to interpret a sketch in any way that we liked the only rule that we needed to use some of their products.

I started by using a piece of their Ombre Dream’s collection (Susan’s Dream) and used a Prima stencil and modeling paste to add texture to the page.  And then I mixed gesso and Prima Color Bloom spray in Glisttening waves and splattered it on the page.  And to add some shimmer I sprayed it with Tattered Angel spray in Linen.  I actually used some of the packaging from a pack of chipboard to layer in the background.  I distressed the paper with Tim Holtz distress tool and then used a color coordinating ink on the edges.  I had a piece I lace paper trim from a greeting card to trim the bottom and I sprayed that with the Color Bloom spray as well.  I used three chipboard pieces from Blue Fern Studios….a flourish that I cut in half, a floral piece, and the word “Love” all of them I rubbed a little of the gesso/spray mixture to give some color.  I add some Prima flowers, sugar dots, and some seam binding for embellishments and of course a photo of my sweet little boy.

I hope y’all like my version of this sketch and thank you for visiting my blog.

Purple Altered Canvas

Wow it seems like I haven’t posted anything in forever!!!! Things have been crazy busy and to top everything off I decided at the last minute to sign up for a craft show that is a month away.  So I have been trying to get my craft supplies stocked up so I can bulk my inventory.  I want to start off by wishing all the mommies a very Happy Mothers Day and hope everyone is having a great day sharing memories with family.

This project was actually inspired by a Youtube video that i watched by smscrapper….and she used the concept of placing the wooden frame in the center and popping it up so that it can be a working frame and you can change your photo out just like a regular frame.

I did some distressing to the papers and layer some fussy cut pieces on there and also did some stamping all around the canvas.  I popped the top of the frame with dimensionals and hot glued the bottom so the picture doesn’t fall through.  Them I just arranged some sprays and flowers and a bird from Michaels.  I made one already and it sold so I think I will have several of these made for the craft fair to see how it goes.  I had a lot of fun with this one cause there was really no worriies about messing up…..just play around that see what works and a lot of the time things get covered up anyway so its really fool proof 🙂

Hope everyone had a great weekend and hopefully I will be able to post again very soon with an acceptance letter for that craft show…(fingers crossed)

Take care yall

Canvases!!!!

Wow….its been a busy week and my creative juices have been flowing.  I finished several projects and had the “tough” decision of which to blog about this week.  I made these canvases to display some of my favorite pictures of my sweet little boys and to show a fun technique of using ink sprays.

I started both projects the same way by covering both pieces with gesso (primer) and then selected the embellishments for each piece….which included some Prima resin pieces, chipboard pieces from Blue Fern Studios and other items from my stash.  I also used regular paper doilies as stencils and to add some dimension.

Then after everything was glued down I went over everything again with a lite coat of gesso.  Now, we’re ready to spray!!!!  I used Ranger’s Ink Spray in blue, yellow, and green.  No special technique used just spray and used a tissue to blot and a hair dryer to set the inks in between sprays.  And lastly I sprayed a linen shimmer spray for a little shine.

After adhering my photos down I added a few more details  that I didn’t want to have ink spray like the twine for the swing and flowers from Prima (another favorite manufacturer of mine)

I really enjoyed making these and of course who doesn’t love have fun ways to display photos of their kiddos.  These would make great décor for your home and always a great gift idea.  All I would need is your favorite photo and whatever design ideas you have.  Hope yall have a wonderful weekend.

More cards!!!

Hey there,

I finished a few more cards today that i thought I would share with y’all.  One is peacock inspired and the other is fairy inspired.

The peacock card was created by layering four different scrapbook papers and feathers from Hobby Lobby.  I used a Fiskars border punch for one layer and distressed another layer and used gold ink to accent the edges.  The metal peacock was from an etsy shop and I used Fiskars stamps for the sentiment.  On the inside I layered some card stock and did some stamping.

The fairy card was done entirely with the Graphic 45 “Once upon a Springtime” collection.  I used a decorative  wooden frame from Michaels and sprayed it with gold and white shimmer spray.  I fussy cut the flowers and fairies from the paper collection.  The cherry blossoms are from a company called I Am Roses.  The metal lock is from Michaels.  The inside is decorated with the papers and a metal key from my stash.  I can’t say it enough….how much I love Graphic 45 paper collection, there are so many possibilities with the papers and y’all will be seeing many projects with this companies products.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful week and please feel free to ask any questions or inquire about these items for sale.  I will be creating cards for all occasions and would love to create one for you if you have a specific design you are looking for.

Enjoy,

Leah

First Project Post….”Welcome Little One” Baby Girl card

Hey Everyone!

I am officially writing my very first blog YAY!!! I have made so many different projects this week, some are done and some are not so I decided to pick a project that was my very first card I have made to go along with my first blog post LOL.  I wanted to branch out from just making Christmas ornaments and decor that way I can have a wide variety of things that people might like for all year and not limit myself to just Christmas.  So I started with the altered frames and wall plaques and then I was drawn to trying my hand at scrapbook layouts and cards.  This is my first attempt at a card and I hope to make many more for all different occasions.

I started with a piece of pink cardstock ended up being a 5×7 card.  I layered a piece of Graphic 45’s Secret Garden collection paper that I distressed with a Tim Holtz distress tool and then used Tim Holtz distress ink in Vintage photo.  Then I used a piece of twine to make the clothes line and fussy cut the paper doll clothes from the Graphic 45 Precious Memories collection and hot glued them to the twine.  Finished it off with some buttons and the card stock stickers from the Precious Memories collection. If you have never used or seen Graphic 45 scrapbook paper and embellishments….it is an amazing company, I love all their collections. They are very vintage and have so many different designs.  Beautiful papers!!!!

I used some paper from Prima’s Something Blue collection for the inside and used a few more card stock stickers to decorate the inside of the card.  I really like the way this card came out for my first attempt at card making and I hope you like it as well.  I have this card as well as many other projects posted to my Facebook page and if you have any questions or comments please leave me a little message.

Enjoy
